The Sugar Act
The sugar act was an act forcing the Americans to pay taxes on sugar. The act also increased taxes on coffee, indigo, and wine. The British Goverment didnt ask the colonist for permission to do this, the colonist were angry because they did not like being controled by the British. -
Committees of Correspondence
Committee of Correspondence was formed to encourage opposition to Britain’s refusal of customs enforcement and prohibition of American paper money. The Committees were the American colonies’ first establishment for maintaining communication with one another. -
Stamp Act
The stamp act was passed by the british parliament. It imposed all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used, such as legal documents, licenses, newspapers, and other publications. -
Quartering Act
This was an act passed by the parliament. it required the colonies to house British soldiers in barracks provided by the colonies. they were required to house them and if they didnt have room themselves they were to make fit for the forces in outhouses, barns, or other buildings. -
Stamp Act Congress
The stamp act congress was created when 27 represenatives from 9 colonies met in New York City and wrote statements of rights and brought up colonies together against Great Britan. -
The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was the killing of five colonists by British soilders, they came to Massachutsetts to enforce heavy taxation. This led to a campaign by speech-writers. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston tea part was a protest against taxation.Great Britan raised the taxes to help the East India company. In responce the colonies didnt allow shipments to come in. When a shipdid come in Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty boarded three ships in the Boston harbor and threw 342 chests of tea overboard. -
Intorable Acts
The Intolerable Acts was a series of demanding laws passed by the British Parliament, after the Boston Tea party. They were meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for the throwing a large tea shipment into Boston harbor. The laws took away Massachusetts self-government and historic rights. -
Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence was a document stating the colonies wanted independence from Great Britan. The colonies voted in favor of the declaration, risking a lot but with strong beliefs of a better furture. -
Thomas Paine "Common sense"
Thomas Paine wrote a pamphlet,in simple language, so that everyone may understand that he is challenging the authority of the British government and the royal monarchy by stating that America will be free, its just common sense.
