The Navigation Acts
The navigation acts restricted colonial trade to England and attempted to increase the self sufficiency of the empire through mercantilist ideals. -
The Stamp Act
The Stamp act levied taxes on all commercial and legal documents which extended to dice and even playing cards. This made the colonists think about who should have the power to make and write laws. -
End of the French and Indian War
England defeated the French and in doing so drained their treasury requiring them to tax the colonies higher. -
Boston Massacre
One of the first acts of violence and rebellion by the colonists. -
The Tea Act
The Tea Act created a monopoly on British tea imports which permitted the company to sell directly to colonists. -

Coercive/Intolerable Acts
This allowed soldiers to quarter in private homes, and included unjust trial laws. -
First Continental Congress
The colonists first official meeting about the blossoming revolution. -
Lexington and Concord
The shot heard round the world. The first real attack on the British by the Americans. -
The Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress drafted the declaration. -

Written July, 4th this was the colonists official secession from Britain -

Winter at Valley Forge
Washington led his troops to Valley Forge for the winter where thousands died of cold or diesease. -
Battle of Yorktown
This is the battle where Cornwallis surrenders his army. -
Constitution Adopted
This was to fully instate the United States as a country.
