Stamp Act
Tax on legal documents. Required that a stamp be bought for all legal documents and other items such as playing cards, newspapers, etc.
Marked the beginning of organized opposition to British rule. Such as The Stap Act Congress and Sons of Liberty. -
The Townshend Act
Named after Britain's chief financial officer, Charles Townshend, the act was used for "the support of civil government"in the colonies.
Parliament puts duties on imported goods. For example: tea, paper, glass, and paints.
Even though an "indirect tax," colonists were upset because they still saw it as "taxation without reresentation." Colonists started boycott. -
The Boston Massacre
A Drunken mob harasses British soldiers who then fire their muskets pointblank into the crowd, killing three instantly, wounding two others, and injuring 6 others.
The Royal Governor of Massachusetts withdraws British troops out of Boston and The captain Thomas Preston is arrested along with 8 other men and all are charge with murder. -
The Boston Tea Act
On the night of December 16, 1773 colonists disguiesed themselves as Mohawk Indians. They went aboard three tea ships, broke open the crates, and dumped out 45 tons of tea. -
The Intolerable Acts
A series of laws passed by Parliament.
