French and Indian War
Conflict between the British colonies and the French colonies in America, also known as the Seven Years' War. The British being victorious was important because it created anger in the French army and motivated the British. -
Royal Proclamation of 1763
Issued personally by King George III, would end the Seven Years' War. This is important because all French territory in America would be handed over to the British. -
The Stamp Act
Placed a tax on all paper goods in the colonies. This is important because it enraged the colonies as the tax was imposed without them having any say in it. -
Townshend Acts
British Acts passed to better fund the colonies in America. Most of these were imposed taxes or regulations so it further enraged the colonies. -
The Boston Massacre
A peaceful protest escalated to Bostonians throwing snowballs then eventually rocks at the redcoats. Allegedly, Captain Preston then gave the order to fire into the crowd which would progress the colonies hatred to the oppressive Great Britain. -
Boston Tea Party
After the British government imposed a tax on tea without the colonies having any say in it, the colonists were enraged. They dressed as Native Americans and boarded British ships along the docks to dump 340 chests of tea in retaliation, showing Britain that the people of America had the ability and urge to revolt. -
Intolerable Acts
Laws passed by the British Parliament against Massachusetts, a direct result of the Boston Tea Party. This proved costly to the colonists and put ease on the British government. -
Siege of Boston
The opening of the American Revolution. The Continental Army would prevent the British Army stationed in Boston, proving crucial as they would eventually drive the British army out of Boston. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
The first battle of the American Revolution, also dubbed "the shot heard around the world." It brought along more attention to the revolution, this persuaded more Americans to join the cause. -
Battle of Quebec
The British troops stationed at Quebec City would have to defend against the Continental Army. The first ever real defeat for America during the American Revolution, forcing the Continental Army to regroup and recover. -
Declaration of Independence
A document that officially announced that the colonies were seceding from Great Britain. The colonies have now become the United States of America, a pivotal point int he American Revolution. -
Battle of Long Island
Has been called the Battle of Brooklyn or the Battle of Brooklyn Heights, was fought west of Long Island and resulted in a loss for Washington and his Continental Army. This was obviously detrimental to the colonies' morale during the American Revolution. -
Battle of Trenton
A very small American Revolution battle. Mainly just supported the morale of soldiers and encouraged more to join the cause of the American Revolution. -
Battle of Brandywine
Conflict between the Continental Army and British Army near Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. The Continental Army failing in fending off the British proved costly to the American Revolution (adding to the important 9/11s in American history). -
Battle of Saratoga
The battle that marked the climax of the American Revolution. It asserted America as the clear victor of the American Revolution. -
Battle of Germantown
MAJOR conflict between Continental Army and British Army. General Greene's and Stephen's squadron would mistake each other for British soldiers and open fire, causing unnecessary casualties during the American Revolution. -
Battle of Monmouth
Fought near the Monmouth courthouse. It resulted in a stalemate between America and Britain, resulting in a war that gave no glory during the American Revolution. -
Battle of Kings Mountain
Conflict between Patriot and Loyalist militias in South Carolina. The result was a victory for the Patriots, heavily boosting American morale during the American Revolution. -
Battle of Cowpens
This battle was fought NEAR the town of Cowpens, South Carolina. This being important as it gave Great Britain the idea to capture New York so it could isolate Britain from the colonies during the American Revolution. -
Battle of Yorktown
A British Siege on American soil that failed terribly. The French would surround them around the peninsula while the Americans would keep them on the water front from the land. The British were forced to surrender, resulting in an indefinite victory for America during the American Revolution.
