Royal Proclamation
When the British people made a line at the appalachian mountains which forced all the people living beyond the line to move back to the 13 colonies. -
Sugar Act
Taxes were put on imported goods such as sugar and molasses. Some colonists boycotted sugar. -
Stamp Act
All legal documents, and newspapers had to be stamped at a cost ranging from one cent to several dollars. -
Townshed Act
Taxes were placed on glass, tea, silk, paper, paint and lead. The sale of British goods fell by almost two thirds. -
Boston Massacre
Boston MassacreBritish soldiers misunderstood an order and fired their muskets into a mob of Boston protesters, killing severeal people. -
Boston Tea Party
An important event, which was well-organized asnd supervized by leaders, and was not the action of a wild mob. -
Tea Act
Indian company got the sole right to sell tea in North America, but refused to sell to New York or Philli. A group of 40 or 50 people from Boston dressed up like Natives and dumped all the tea in the harbour. -
First Continental Congress
Took the first steps toward full independance in Britain. The leaders demanded a boycott of all goods from England, cutting economic ties to the home country. British General Gage readied the thousands of troops from his headquarters in Boston, and colonists began to train and store weapons and ammunition. -
Intolerable Act
Boston was closed to all shipping until all the tea was paid for. The Quebec Act was considered to be an intolerable act. British gave Quebec control of the Ohio Territory. The people of the 13 colonies boycotted British goods. Some colonists began to collect arms and amuunition. Began to raise an army of their own. -
Bunker Hill
The first major battler near Bunker Hill. Here, the rebel army held its own against crack British regiments. Around the same time, George Washington was made commander of the Continental Army. -
Quebec
The Quebec people joined the Americans to fight in the revelution. They were trying to defend the border of Quebec but in 1775 they were 'backdoored' and the British intruded into Quebec. And the failure convinced the Canadians to remain loyal to the British. -
Lexington
The opening shots of the American Revolution were fired here. As the American and British soldiers faced eachother, the British told the Americans to leave and ordered the soldiers not to fire. A shot was fired out of excitment probably by the Americans, and then the British started to fire. Few Americans were killed. On the way back to Boston, the British were attacked. -
Declaration of Independance
The American Revolution was taking place but it lacked a plan. Many leaders did not want to completely break with England. The philosophy of the Revelution had indeed coome from England, and was inspired by the philosopher John Locke who beileved people had the right to freedom and should be able to rid themselves of a bad monarch.
