Civil War--> End of Slavery
We endured the civil war fighting for what we thought was right, the freedom of all people. The slaves were freed and we had a country of equals. This hard work paid off and we got what we wanted, the sacrifice of men was worth it.

Roaring Twenties
The roaring twenties were an era of glamour and wealth. The people were enjoying themselves and the country was wealthy. This was due to the act of prohibition; the banning of alcohol. The people were glamorous and it was definitely a society of social ranking and classes. Everyone wanted to be popular and to party. Social status was amazingly important.

New Deal
Aseries of economic reforms to get out of the great depression created by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He created social security during this deal giving the people a payment they deserve after retirement and a life of hard work.

Levittown
Levittown was a beginning to a separted high class society in America. The upscale people moved to the suburbs while the lower class people lived in the cities. No blacks were allowed in Levittown. It was a society of conformity. The people were all very similar.

This was another set of events filled with people striving for equality and freedom. The people fought for what they wanted, they proved that if you work hard enough you can achieve anything.

Comsumerism
Consumerism is an era where people were very interested in material things. Everyone wanted what everyone else had. Your social status and your friends were based on what you owned and what you could afford. This is a point in time where the american dream became less about hard work and more about money. People were using money to be seen high up.

A Time of Turmoil
The 1960's aare the time when people became less conservative and started to really let loose. Rock Music came into play; The Beatles became wildly famous with raunchy lyrics. Promiscuity became more popular. This changed the American dream because this time changed peoples values. Not as many people wanted a family and a steady job. People were looking for money and success and viewed people like rock musicians as the american dream instead of hard workers.

The Vietnam War was a time where people started to express opinions and join peace movements or the war. People became very opinionated. People viewed those who faught in the war and those who were willing to express their opinions as the ideals of America.

Booming Use of Credit Cards
People started to use credit cards which gave them the ability to buy now and pay later. People could finally buy the new things they wanted to impress people and not have to worry about payment until later. It just increased the ability for people to be materialistic.

First Biracial President
Barack Obama was the first biracial president of the United States which required a lot of work. People still discriminate today and he had to overcome that. Obama brought us back to an era of the hard working American dream. This debt has forced people to work harder and has influenced the American Dream to have become more revolved around hard workers.
