The first domesticated rabbits were from the middle ages. They were used as farm animals. Rabbits have been used for many years before this though.

People started to experiment with breeding different types of rabbits together.

Myxomatosis spead from rabbits in France to rabbits in Britian. This is a disease carried by rabbit fleas. This killed more than 99% of the rabbit population in Britian.

We were first developed by a breeder named Monica Berryhill from Texas in December of 1984. There were a total of seven in this litter. She bred a dwarf rex buck named Zoro with a lynx rex doe named Cotton. Of the seven offspring, three of them were does. Their names were Happy, Bashful, and Dopey. Most of us can be traced back to those three.

Happy, Bashful, and dopey were sent to Linda Thompson and Gloria Middleton in Sarasota, Florida to be bred to extend the breed.

She lost her battle with cancer and died. In memory of her the NMRRC renamed their group to the Linda Thompson Memorial Scholarship.
