It took the National Assembly close to four years to decide how to reform the French government, in 1875 the aggreed on "the system of government that divides us least." However 12 political parties competed for power and over the next 40 years France averaged a governmental change every ten months. -

The Dreyfus Affair
Anti-Semitism or prejudice against Jews caused the scandle known as The Dreyfus Affair where Captain Alfred Dreyfus, one of very few Jewish officers in the French army, was accused of selling military secrets to the Germans. He was found guilty by the court based on false evidence, it was later revealed that he was set up by other French officers. -
Militant Protests to Gain Attention
Emmeline Pankhurst fformed the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) which became the most militant organization for women's rights. The activists would heckle government speakers, cut telegraph wires, and committed arson in addition to peacful demonstrations and parades.
