Russian Revolution
The Russian Revolution is two revolutions that ended Russia's old government and was the start of the communism which created the Soviet Union. This is significant because if Russia never became communist then their would be no Cold War. -
Potsdam Conference
The Potsdam Conference was held in Potsdam, from 17 July to 2 August 1945. The goals of the conference also were to set postwar order and peace treaty issues. This is significant because in order for the Soviet Union to take over with communist they could not break the peace treaty or it will start another war. -
Atomic bomb - Hiroshima/Nagasaki
During World War II, two nuclear weapons were dropped on the Japanese in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.The bombings killed 129,000–226,000 people. The U.S meant to drop the second bomb to scare the Soviet Union from invading China. This was significant because it was an attempted at stopping a star of another war. -
Iron Curtain
The Iron Curtain is a line between communist countries and non communist countries. This line was created after World War 2 and was in place till the end of the Cold War. This curtain is not a real curtain it is a figure a speech. It is significant because it separates communist from others. -
Truman Doctrine
The Truman Doctrine was to help support other countries economies like Turkey with military and economic aid. Military force was usually not used but the build up of other countries military usually occurred. This is significant because it was an attempted at stopping communism. -
Marshall Plan
The Marshall Plan is a lot like the Truman Doctrine but they gave 12 billion dollars into European countries to help rebuild from World War 2. It was significant because it was a an attempted at stopping the spread of communism. -
NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is an international alliance. The point of this alliance is if any of the members of the alliance were to be fired on all the members would respond. -
Berlin Blockade and Airlift
The Berlin Blockade was East Germany's attempted at blocking off the road to Berlin in hopes of starving Berlin to death. The Unite States response to this blockade was to airlift supplies into Berlin. The blockade lasted for over a year. -
Soviet bomb test
The Soviets first bomb test was a classified testauthorized by Joseph Stalin in the Soviet Union which was the start of a nuclear conflict called the Cold War. -
Hollywood 10
The Hollywood 10 was an entertainment industry blacklist. They denied employment to actors during the mid-20th century because they have Communist ties. This is significant because the U.S thought there were communist in our country. -
Korean War
The Korean war was a between South Korea who was supported by the United States and North Korea who was supported by the Soviet Union. This was significant because it was the United States Trying to stop the Soviets from making another country a communist country. -
Khruschev Takes over
Khruschev was a Soviet statesman who led the Soviet Union. He was the leader who took over many countries and made them communist. This is significant because the Soviets were trying to can’t over countries and the U.S was trying to stop it. -
Eisenhower’s Massive Retaliation Policy
The Massive Retaliation Policy is a nuclear strategy in which a state commits itself to retaliate in much greater force in the event of an attack. -
Army-McCarthy hearings
The McCarthy hearings were a bunch of hearings held by the United States on Investigations conflicting accusations between the United States Army and U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy. -
Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw Pact aka the Treaty of Friendship was a defence treaty signed in Warsaw, Poland during the Cold War. -
The Vietnam War
During the Vietnam War The United States sent over 300,000 Soldiers to Vietnam to fight against communism. Over 50,000 died from this war. This is significant because it was one of the only big face to face conflict during the Cold War. -
Hungarian Revolution
The Hungarian Revolution of 1956, was a nationwide revolt against Soviet's communism. This is significant because it's another country besides the U.S fighting back against communism. -
U2 Incident
The U2 incident was where the Soviets shot down a U.S spy plane deep into Soviet territory. The plane was taking photographs. This is significant because the U.S was trying to take pictures to see what the Soviets were planning. -
Bay of Pigs invasion
The Bay of Pigs is where the CIA trained Cubans that escaped Cuba when it was taken over by communism. The Cubans were supposed to sneak back on the island and take it back. All the Cubans were killed. This is significant because it was the U.S attempting are stopping communism. -
Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall was built to keep all the people from Berlin inside Berlin and not letting them into East Germany. Anyone who would try to jump the wall would be shot and killed. This is significant because East Germany tried to trap Berlin during the Cold War. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis was where the Soviets brought nukes into Cuba and the U.S was threatened by it. This led to an agreement that removed the nukes from Cuba but also made the U.S remove them from there countries that were holding ours. This significant because it got rid of some the nukes in the Cold War. -
Detente under Nixon
Detente was used to end the conflict between the East and West, and for them to worked together to end communism. -
The Reagan Doctrine
The Reagan Doctrine was planned to overwhelm the global influence of the Soviet Union in an attempt to end the Cold War by collapse their government. This is significant because it is the main reason why the Cold War ended because the Soviets couldn't keep up with the U.S. -
Reagan’s Berlin Wall Speech
"Tear down this wall!" Reagan said. He stated this to see if the Soviets were serious about backing down to slowly end the Cold War. This is very significant because it was one of the major stepping stones into ending the Cold War. -
Fall of the Berlin Wall
On 13 June 1990 the Berlin Wall began to be taken down. It was slowly taken down till December when it finally was gone. This was when the Cold War was over.
