    First Earth Day
    "We only have one earth, so we need to take care of her," says Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin. He was disturbed that an issue as important as our environment was not addressed in politics or by the media, so he created the first Earth Day, on April 22, 1970. An estimated 20 million people nationwide attended festivities that day. It was truly astonishing leading eventually to national legislation such as the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act

    Women embraced the 70's fashion, adopting a uniform of high-waisted bell bottoms pants and tight T-shirts. Platform shoes were all the rage for both men and women-the higher the better. A-line skirts still held some popularity, as did matching skirts and coats. An important shift was taking place, however-a basic suit tended more often to include pants than skirts.

    Disco
    Disco comes from the word "discotheque;" a term used to describe the nightclubs people went to during the 1960s and 70s. Disco music is meant to be danced to or to entice listeners to get up and dance. At first, disco music was enjoyed inside nightclub with DJ's. Later on, the tempo of these songs became faster, the playing time longer and songs from other genres such as funk were mixed in. By the mid 1970s, disco music dominated the airwaves.

    The Jump of Snake River Canyon
    American daredevil, Evel Knievel, decideds to jump the canyon of Snake River. He jumped the canyon in a sky-cycle, since a motorcycle would not stay airborne that long. The jump was nearly a disaster because the parachute deployed right as the sky-cycle launched, hurtling Knievel into the 600 foot canyon. He walked away with minor injuires, and he said he never thought the jump would be a success.

Since the end of the war, the Vietnam War has become a benchmark for what not to do in all future U.S. foreign conflicts.
