France was in debt from being in war and they needed money badly. The United States was trying to spread their country all the way to the Pacific Ocean and they couldnt pass up on such a good deal. We bought the Louisiana Terriotory for $15 million, The U.S. got 828,00 square miles worth of land, For every acre it costed 4 cents. -

The Corps of Discovery Expedition
The Corps of Discovery Expedition was lead by Lewis and Clark. They set out trying to find the Northwest Passage. The NOrthwest passage was a waterway that wpould lead out into the Pacific Ocean so it wpuld be easier to trade with China. They never found it because the Missoouri River ended. They faced harsh conditions and even starvation. If Sacagawea had not came onto the trip with them they may not have found the Pacific Ocean or even survived. The War of 1812
The War of 1812 had many nicknames, It was known as "the forgotten war", "the war of poor communication" and "the Revolutionary War Part II". The U.S. was fighting against the British. The British had many more troops than the U.S. The U.S. did not give up even though it looked they they should have lost. The war ended in a stalemate, but the U.S. felt they had won because the British had so mant more troops than them. It gave the U.S. a sense of Nationalism. The song The Star Spangled Banner -

Florida Territory
Andrew Jackson went down to the Florida Terrioty to capture Seminole Raiders. He did capture some Seminole Raiders but he also did something he did not have orders to do. Andrew Jackson got the Florida Territory land to be apart of the U.S. He kicked out all of the native americans and took the Florida territory away fromo them. The U.S. eneded up giving them $5 million for it after they had already forced them to leave, -
The Monroe Doctrine
James Monroe wrote "The Monroe Doctrine". It stated that the U.S. did not want to deal with any foreign countries. He did not want any European countries to come to North or South America and make colonies. We wanted to have control over our side of the hemisphere. It didn't let any countries interfere with the U.S. Although, the other countires were confused about the whole situation, no country challenged agaisnt The Monroe Doctrine. -
The Indian Removal Act & The Trail of Tears
Andrew Jackson wanted all of the Indians to leave their land and move the a reserve on what is now modern day Oklahoma. The Indians who got moved from the homes had to march alll the way to their reserve. Andrew Jackson was the one who signed The Indian Removal Act. It was called the Trail of tears because for all of the tears that fell, today flowers grow along the trail all of the Indians walked. Five major tribes were forced to move away from their homes and to their reservation. -

The five major tribes who got moved were the Cherokee, Chicksaw, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole. The Cherokee tribe was the tribe who truly walked the Trail of Tears. -
Texas
Stephen Austin and Moseswere some of the first American Settelers in Texas. Colonies began to form and the Mexicans were going to make everybody follow their laws. Everybody who had setteked in Texas did not want to follow their laws. The Texans wanted to become an independent country. Texans had many batteks against the Mexicans. At the Alamo, Mexicans killed everybody who was in the fort. The Texans were very mad at the Mexucans for what they did. They captured Mexicos President, Santa Anna. -

After they had captured Santa Anna, they forced him to to give them the land. Texans got all of the land they asked for. They became their own country known as the Republic of Texas. After 9 years of being their own country they became apart if the Untied States. -
Oregon territory
54, 40 or fight, the United States wanted the Oregin territory from British Canada. If British Canada wasn't willing to give up the Oregon Territory, America was going to fight for it at all costs. British Canada did not want to go to war for the Oregon Territory because they were afraid they were going to loose. They settled on the 49th parallel. The U.S. would get anything South of the line. -
The Mexican-American War
In 1846, the U.S. offered to buy the Mexican Cession from Mexico, but they refused to sell it. The United States went to war with them for two years. After two years of fighting against them we defeated Mexico. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hildago in 1848 was made. This ended the war and America got much of California, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. America paid Mexico $15 million for the land.
