Passing of the 19th Amendment
The 19th Amendment gave woman the right to vote. This amendent was passed after a long fight with the extremely consistent woman of the Womans Rights Movement. This movement began in 1848 and was not won until 1920. -
KDKA Radio Station in Pittsburgh
KDKA was the first real broadcasting station. With the creation of this station radio soon became a booming business with over 2,00 stations by 1930. -
Emergency Quota Act
The Emergency Quota Act was put in place to help restrict immigrats from entering the US. Under this quota only 3% of the number of people who lived in the US from that country would be admitted anually. -
Boll Weevil Crisis
Boll Weevil's are small brown bugs that feed off of cotton. They have been in the US since the late 1800's but in the 1920's the boll weevils were ruining over 80% of farmers crops. So they had to come up with new insecticides to help manage the problem. -
Stock Market on the Rise
The Great Bull period, as it came to be known, was the major stock market rise that started in 1924 and went all the way to 1929. This major increase happened because investors were provided people with optimism by helping common stock prices go big. -
National Origins Act
The National Origins Act replaced the Emergency Quota Act in 1924. This new set of rules on immigration was even stricter and more limited than the former one. Under this quota only two percent of the nations living community would be accepted and Asians were basically forbidden. -
Scopes Trial
The Scopes Trial was over a teacher going against the law and teaching the Theory of Evolution to his students. This was considered illegal because it went against religious values.
John Scopes was found guilty of this and fined $100. -
Ku Klux Klan March on Washington
On August 8th, 1925, 40,000 members of the newly revived Ku Klux Klan marched down Pennslyvania Avenue holding up American Flags. This was not even a fourth of their present members. This marched helped them gain national attention and helped prove their stance of power. -
Langston Hughes Publishes "The Weary Blues"
Langston Hughes was a major author during the Harlem Resistance. He was a big poet but "The Weary Blues" was his first published book. He was only 24 when it was published and would go on to write many other books such as "The Way of a White Man" and "Not Without Laughter" -
Charles Lindbergh Flies Across the Atlantic
Charles Lindbergh was a famous American Aviator. He is famous for being the first to make a solo nonstop trip across the Atlantic Ocean. After this he became known as "Lucky Lindy" and the "Lone Eagle" -
Sacco and Vanzetti are Executed
Sacco and Vanzetti were italian immigrants that were falsly accused of a murder. They were only targeted because they were foreign. They were found guilty and executed. -
Herbert Hoover Becomes President
Herbert Hoover beat President Coolidge in his 1932 election. He was a republican president.
