    The 14th Amendment
    The 14th amendment was created in the civil war era, but was not used or enforced untill the late 20th century. This amendment was made in order to give all men equal rights.
  • Plessy VS. Ferguson

    Plessy VS. Ferguson
    On this date a black man was put into jail because he was on the wrong railroad cart. In his case a new precident was created; the seperate but equal priciple allowed segregation to happen as long as the conditions in these places were "equal" for both races. This ruling was used for many years, and was one of the biggest creators of segregation. This man is waiting in a segregated line to board a segregated bus, The busses at this time would be segregated very much like a train,

    Segregation was happening throughout the country before the plessy case, but this case made it legal. This is a image of a color segregated water fountain. This is definatly not a school because at the time all schools were seperate.

    Rasism was very prevelent in about a twenty year span surounding the 1900s. This was not an action only against african americans, but most races. The segregation happening at this time even icluded the disabled. this picture is demonstatrating segregation of indians.

    This is a women voting, she is not only a women, but she is also a african american women; This picture was taken well after the 19th amendment because of this. The 19th amendment was passed on this date, granting all women the right to vote. This may not seem related to the 14th amendment or the civil rights movement, but in the suffrigests fight for equality they used the 14th amendment as leverage towards their goal.

    Brown v. Board of Education
    This is a picture of what a school usually looks like now. A court case that took place on the above listed date led to this type of integration. In the brown v. board of education Tipika, Kansas case a man pointed out that the conditions in the seperated schools were not equal, shattering the seperate but equal pecident.
  • The Little Rock Nine

    The Little Rock Nine
    Shortly after that ruling the first nine students were desegregated into the little rock high school. This step was not taken well by th white community; In the next school year little rock was closed and all white students went private.

    Today segregation has been quelled. this image shows a women working, and a handicaped person working at the same time. These two traits were somthing that would never be accepted in the workplace.
