Jamestown Colony
The Jamestown Colony was the first colony founded of the 13 colonies. -
The Great Puritan Migration
Puritans came from England in the 1630's and by 1643 there were more than 20,000 Puritans that arrived in Massachusetts, and what was called the Great Migration. -
Lord Baltimore founds the Maryland Colony
Lord Baltimore founds Maryland, 1632. He and Colonists meeting Native Americans. The site of Maryland's first colonial settlement. -
Harvard College
In 1636 the Puritans founded Harvard College, now known as Harvard University, to train ministers. -
Pequot War
In 1637 the colonist and the Pequot began attacking each other's settlements. The conflict became known as the Pequot War. -
Slave Auction
The first slave auction in New Amsterdam was held in 1655. -
Carolina Colony
In 1712, the Carolina Colony was split into North Carolina and South Carolina because the colony became too large to govern. -
Georgia Colony
In 1733, Georgia was the last of the 13 Colonies. It was established by James Olgethorpe. -
Fort Mose
In 1738 Fort Mose was founded. It bcame the first settlement in North America for free Africans. They were free to practice African customs. -
Indigo Cash Crop
In the 1740's Indigo becomes a major cash crop throughout South Carolina.
