French and Indian War
As known as the Seven Years war, this was a war fought in Europe between France and England. It was fought to decide who got the land of the New World. -
Treaty of 1763
This treaty was signed by Great Britain, France, Spain, and Portugal. It was signed to end the war between Great Britain and France. This stopped France from trying to start another war against Great Britain. It also made France give up their territories in North America. -
Proclamation of 1763
This proclamation was made to stop the colonies from spreading outward, west, of the Appalachian Mountains (because the land was owned/reserved by the indians). -
Stamp Act
This act, made by the Parliament of Great Britain, forced the british colonies in America to pay taxes. This was because the British had to help repay for the war they just fought. Requiring colonies to have everything that was printed have a stamp on it to make them legal. -
Boston Massacre
This began as a group of colonists were harassing a group of british soldiers. It was told that one the colonists had thrown a ball of snow towards the soldiers and this led to the soldiers starting to fire and shoot some of the colonists. Which led to man people having different point of views. -
Boston Tea Party
This was a protest caused by American colonists. These colonists were angry with Great Britain for making them pay taxes. Therefore, the colonists dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor to show how they felt. -
Intolerable Acts
These were laws by the British parliament to punish Massachusetts for their tea party protest. It included four laws that Massachusetts had to follow. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
This was the first war fought in the American Revolution. This started because of the suspence between the colonies. So, one night, British troops marched from Boston to Concord to capture the store of weapons. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
Because the American forces found out that the British were going to plan to take over the hills in Boston. So, the Americans secretly moved their troops to the hills outside of Boston. -
Publication of Common Sense
This was a pamphlet (written by Thomas Paine) of the 13 colonies wanting independence from Great Britain. -
Declaration of Independence
A document explaining the separation of America from Great Britain. This was because America felt that they needed to have their own country and step away from British rules. -
Battle of Trenton
This was a small battle fought because Washington and his army bumped into the Hessian garrison (a British army). So Washington decided to fight these men at Trenton to cross the river. -
Battle of Saratoga
This was a major part of the American Revolution. Fought in New York. It gave a slightly easy victory to the Americans and having the British lose. -
Valley Forge
This was one of the camps used for the Continental army during the Revolutionary war. This is where George Washington would lead the army in what they needed to do or what they needed to know. -
Battle of Cowpens
A battle with the US forces against the British forces. This war happened because the US felt that they weren't going to win the war. But, by the US winning this war, it helped everyone see how good they truly were. -
Battle of Yorktown
This battle was where the British army finally surrendered after years of fighting in multiple wars. This last war marked the last war fought in the American Revolution. -
Treaty of Paris
This treaty was made and signed to end the Revolutionary war. It was signed by representatives of King George lll (Great Britain) and representatives of the United States.
