Letter from William Travis at the Alamo
In William Travis's letter, he called for reinforcements to help against the attack at the Alamo. William Travis did not receive any aid and would eventually die defending the Alamo. -
Texas Declaration of Independence
Texas delegates passed this declaration that declared its own independence to the world and Mexico. This document did not mean that Mexico saw Texas an independent republic. Texas then set up its own government and ruled as they saw fit. -
The Treaty of Velasco
At San Jacinto Santa Anna was defeated which caused him to sign a peace treaty with Texas. This treaty proclaimed that Santa Anna should leave Texas with a promise never to attack again. This treaty also stated that the Texas border was the Rio Grande. -

Sam Houston's First Term as President of the Republic of Texas
Sam Houston was the first president of the Republic of Texas and during his term he tried to unite Texas after many fled while fighting Mexico. Towards the end of his term Houston helped establish the boundary between Texas and the United States. -
Adoption of Lone Star Flag
The Lone Star flag was designed by Peter Krag and was approved by Mirabeau Lamar, who was the President of the Republic of Texas at that time. The colors of this flag were meant to be the same as the United States flag and is the state flag that was also a separate nation's flag. -

The Archives War
With a threat of attack from Mexico at Austin, President Sam Houston created an order for all government archives to be moved to a more safe and secure location. The public heard that the capital would be moving and fought to have it remain in Austin. The war between the locals and Houston's officials would officially end with Austin remaining as the capital. -

Mier Expedition
Texas was still being attacked by Mexico, so the Republic sent men to raid Mexico. The Texans were greatly outnumbered and many of the raids ended in death and disaster for the men of the Republic. -
Texas becomes a State
Texas joined the union through Congress approving a joint resolution. President Polk finally found a way for everyone to be happy that Texas would be joining the union.
