The Mexican constitution of 1824
It was modeled after the American Constitution but it gave more power to the central government and there was no freedom of religion. In the same year it angered the colonists because of the unequal power and because they didn’t get say in the government -
Fredonian Rebellion
This happened in 1825 and was a dispute between the Mexican government and the Edwards Brothers. The Edwards Brothers forced the settlers who could not provide ownership to move or pay for their land. The mexican government canceled the contract which made the relationship between Mexico and Texas tense. -
Mier y Teran's Report
It was in 1827 and General Mier Teran’s job was to see the Mexican-American border and observe the Indians. When he got there he realized that there were a lot anglos and it looked looked like they were almost taking over. This caused Mexico to question their control over texas and now they wanted to lessen anglo immigration. -
Guerrero Decree
This abolished slavery throughout the Mexican Republic in 1829. The mexican government hoped that this law would keep anglo immigration in check. It was never actually enforced but it left many Texas colonists worried. -
Law of April 6, 1830
Was designed to stop the flow of Anglo immigration and was the effect of the Mier Teran report. Was not heavily enforced because Stephen F. Austin was able to limit some parts of it. Like many Texas settlers he too began to distrust the mexican government. -
Conflict at Anahuac
When Juan Davis Bradburn arrested 2 anglo settlers. In 1832 a rescue force of about 200 settlers came 6 miles north of Anahuac. Eventually Bradburn had to turn over the arrested settlers and signed the Turtle Bayou resolutions. -
Turtle Bayou Resolutions
Settlers met and agreed on this resolution. They explained that the attack was against the fort, not Anglos attacking Mexicans but Federalist sympathizers opposing a central government. William B. Travis was one of the arrested which the mexican government had to turn over. -
Battle of Velasco
It was mostly likely the first bloodshed between Texas and Mexico. The mexican ran out of ammunition and had to surrender. -
Convention of 1832
They established a plan to organize a military to keep people safe. They also adopted a motion to separate Texas and Coahuila -
Convention of 1833
They asked for Indian Defense, judicial reform, and improvements in mail services. They were prepared to write a constitution. -
Stephen F. Austin goes to Mexico City
SFA left to deliver the petitions to Mexico City. SFA was eventually arrested on his way back home. -
Consultation
Served as a debate that lead to diplomatic relations with Mexico. Started in october and ended on november 7th. Branch T. Archer was president of it,
