Austin Grant
Austin recieved a grant from the Mexican government and began making colonies in the region of the Brazos River -
Mexican Independance
The constitution of 1824 gave Mexico a republican form of government. It failed to define the rights the rights of states within the republic, including Texas. -
Austin Imprisoned
Austin was imprisoned by the Mexicans because they thought he was gonna start a riot against the government. -
Battle at Gonzales
Texans repulsed a deatachment of Mexican Calverly at the Battle of Gonzales. -

Millions were killed by Santa Ana at the Battle of the Alamo. -

Texans under col. William B. Travis were overwhelmed by the Mexican army after a two week seige at the Battle of the Alamo in San Antonio. The runaway Scrape began. -

James Fanin and nearly 400 Texans were executed by the Mexicans at Goliad Massacre bt the order of Santa Ana. -
Battle of San Jacinto
Texans under Sam Houston routed the Mexican forces of Santa Ana at the Battle of San Jancinto. Because of this independance was won in one of the most decisive battles. -
Texas joins the United States
U.S President James Polk followed through on a campaign platform promising to annex Texas, and sighned legislation making Texas the 28th state of the United States. -
Texas secedes and joins the Confederacy
Texas seceded from the federal union following a 171 to 6 vote by the secession convention. Governer Sam Houston was one of a small minority opposed to secession. -
Battle of Galveston-the bayou city
After several weeks of federal occupation of Texas' most important seaport, the Battle of Galveston restored the island to Texas control for the remaineder of the Civil War.
