    Cabeza de Vaca
    Cabaza de Veca shipwrecked on what is believed to be the coast of Galveston. He traded for six years and began to explore Texas on his way to Mexico.
  • Apr 20, 1540

    Coronado

    Coronado
    When Coronado was searching for the fabled Seven Cities of Cibola, he lead an expedition of the Southwest states including northern Texas.
  • La Salle

    La Salle
    La Salle founded Fort St. Louis at Matagorda Bay. This started the claim of Texas from France.
  • Austin Grant

    Austin Grant
    Austin Grant recieved a permit from Mexico's government and he began to start settlements in the Brazos River region.
  • Mexican Independance

    Mexican Independance
    Mexico recieved a constitutuion from their government, but it forgot to define the rights of some states including Texas.
  • Austin Imprisoned

    Austin Imprisoned
    Politicial leaders told Austin to travel to Mexico City to present it to the government. Santa Ana refused to allow Texas to separate. He threw Austin in prison of suspicion.

    The Battle at Gonzalez is supposed to be the fisrst battle of the Texas revolution.
  • Battle of Alamo

    Battle of Alamo
    Santa Anna was determined to win back a battle. Texans were camoong in the Alamo. Mexican soliders accumulated. The Texans fought the Mexicans. About 189 Texans were killed and about 1600 for the Mexicans.

    Because of the Alamo, colonist panicked and ran away. They gathered a few possesions and quickly aboanfoned their home. The was a lot of sickness and hunger, causing many to die. The Texans defeated Santa Anna at San Jacinto. The recovery was speedy though.
  • Massacre At Goliad

    Massacre At Goliad
    Santa Anna fought the Texans at San Antonio. They were outnumbered and with no water and supplies, the Texans waved the white flag the following morning. Believing that they would be taken captive and eventually returned to their homes, the Texans surrendered the morning of March 20. The were escorted back to Goliad as prisoners.

    After the defeat at the Alamo, the Texans headed to San Jacinto. Santa Anna followed them though. Sam Houston waited a while to fire upon Mexican forces, and when he saud "fire!" the Texan troops didn't hesitate to shoot while shouthing things like "Remember the Alamo!"

    James Polk decided to make Texas the 28th state of the United States of America.
  • Texas Secedes And Joins The Confederacy

    Texas Secedes And Joins The Confederacy
    A vote was held, and it was 171 to 6 to secede from the union. The majority won and so Texas secedded form the Union. Sam Houston was invoolved with it.
  • Battle Of Galveston- the Bayou City

    Battle Of Galveston- the Bayou City
    William Renshaw sailed into Galveston and ordered surrendoer of Galveston. Joseph Cook had to do it under circumsatnces. There was fighting and the Texans ended up winning which was good for them because they got to keep the Galveston Island. Twenty-six Confederates had been killed and 117 wounded.
