    Cabeza de Vaca
    Cabeza de Vaca shipwrecked on what was belived to be Galveston Island. He then explored the Texas interior on his way to Mexico.

    Coronado
    In search of the fabled Seven Cities of Cibola, Francisco Vasquez de Coronado led a expedition into the southwest US and accross Northern Texas.

    La salle
    Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle established Fort St. Louis Matagorda Bay and formed the basis for France's claim to Texas. Two years later La salle was murdered by his own men.

  • Austin Grant

    Austin Grant
    Stephen F. Austin recived a grant from the Mexican Goverment. He used that grant to start colonization on the Brazos River.
  • Mexican Independence Day

    Mexican Independence Day
    The constitution of 1824 gave Mexico a Republican form of goverment but it failed to define the rights of the states within the republic including Texas.
  • Austin Imprisioned

    Austin Imprisioned
    Stephen F. Austin was thrown into prison after he conceded to the will of the people in Mexico City. Santa Ana trew Austin in prision for suspicion of inciting insurrection. Austin was in prision for eight months.
  • Battle at Gonzales

    Battle at Gonzales
    Mexican authorities sent 100 men to reposess a cannon that had been given to the Gonzales residence as protection from the indians. The Texans in response loaded the cannon with scrap iron and fired the shot that began the revolution at them. The Texans Gonzales Battle flag read the now famous quote "Come and Take It". This was printed below the cannon.
  • Battle of Alamo

    Battle of Alamo
    After losing to the Texans in San Antonio General Santa Ana wanted to retake this key location and show the texans whos boss. Over the two week period Santa Ana's army increased to over 2,000 troops. Santa Ana came out victorious on the morning of March 6th 1836. Mexican soliders stormed the fortress of the Alamo and killing all the defenders of the Alamo to. 189 Texans and 1600 mexicans are the estimated casualties of The Battle of Alamo.
  • Runaway Scrape

    Runaway Scrape
    The Runaway Scrape began following the siege and fall of the Alamo and ending with the Battle of San Jacinto. Many colonists fled their settlements avoiding the Mexican Army and Santa Ana. Hunger and diasease killed many during the runaway scrape. When the colonists got word that the Texans won at San Jacinto they were estactic. The colonists moved back into their settlements and repaired all the damage.
  • Massacre at Goliad

    Massacre at Goliad
    During Santa Ana's seige of Texas, Santa Ana and his 5,000 men marched inland toward San Antonio. Another general, Jose Urrea left Mexico following the costal route to Texas. Urrea ended up fighting the Goliad fighters and thier general James W. Fannin. Urrea took many Texans prisoner. When Santa Ana heard that there were alot of prisioners, he cited a law saying that all foreigners taken under arms are to be treated as pirates and executed. He sentenced the prisoners to death on Palm Sunday.

    Battle of San Jacinto
    Sam Houston and the Texas army retreated eastward following the fall of the Alamo. The main forces of the Texan army were 750 men and they faced 1500 mexican soliders. When Sam Houston gave the ok to advance and the texans did not hesitate. Within a short time 700 mexicans were killed and 730 were taken prisioner. The Texans came out victorious.

    Texas joins the US
    US president James Polk went on a campaign promosing to annex Texas. He signed legislation making Texas the 28th state of the US.
  • Texas secedes and joins the confederacy

    Texas secedes and joins the confederacy
    Texas seceded after the members of the Secession Convention of 1861 voted. It was a 171 to 6 vote.
  • Battle of Galveston "Bayou City"

    Battle of Galveston "Bayou City"
    The Union at first outnumbered the feds six to one but the feds had a better battle plan and came out victorious.
