    John Brown
    Brown was an active abolitionist in the movement, also lead Bleeding Kansas. He was a hero towards the North and hated in the south. His works in the 1850s overall increased the tension between the north and south and were the leading cause of the Civil War.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    This novel was an anti-slavery novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. This novel caused the north to feel more empathy for slaves and become more opposed to slavery, but the south was unfazed and worked harder to defend slavery. This was also one of the causes of the Civil war.

    This was formed by a group of anti-slavery whigs by forces that opposed the expansion of slavery. The republican party was well supported in the North but opposed to in the South and also threatened to leave the union if a Republican won the presidency.

    This act passed by Congress allowed the people of Kansas and Nebraska to decide for themselves to have slavery in their boundaries. This increased tension between the north and south, the south agreed with the act since Kansas was a slave state, but the North did agree and it resulted in many attacks.
