Television was transformed in the 1980's. With the advent of cable, In 1986, 82% of American adults watched television daily, and the average household had the television set on for seven hours a day. By 1985, 68% of all American households (60 million) had cable television service -
1990's
In the 1990's entire cable channels were devoted to cooking (Food Network), cartoons (Cartoon Network), old television (Nick at Nite, TV Land), home improvement and gardening (Home and Garden Television [HGTV]), comedy (Comedy Central), documentaries (Discovery Channel), animals (Animal Planet) and some more. Around 80% of Americans had access to cable TV. -
2000's
The 2000's was the first time some hit television shows like: The Simpsons, Family Guy, The Office, Friends, SpongeBob and a lot more. There were over 150 channels at this point. By the early 2000's VCR's are being replaced by DVD Recorders. -

As you can see the pictures, television has come a long way sine the 1950's. Television from 2018 have some incredible features such as paper thin screens and amazing picture clarity and quality.
