  • Jamestown was Founded

    Jamestown, VA was found by a group of people called the Virginia Company. They we sent by King James the I to colonize part of the "New World." Jamestown became the first British settlement in America.
  • First Slaves/ House of Burgesses

    The first 20 slaves were brought to America by Dutch traders. Slaves were many used as servants during this time. The first meeting of the House of Burgesses was also held this year in Virginia on July 30th.
  • The Mayflower Compact

    A group of Pilgrims traveled from England in search to find a place to practice their religion freely. They landed in America and named themselves and the place the Plymouth Colony. On one of the ships named The Mayflower, 41 men signed a document named the Mayflower Compact, which became the first written self-governing document in America.
  • The First Thanksgiving

    The first Thanksgiving was celebrated between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag tribe, who helped the Pilgrims colony thrive. The event was held for three days in the fall.
  • Massachusetts Legalized Slavery

    Massachusetts was the first colony to legalize slavery.
  • Slavery Became Recognized in America.

    Slavery became recognized in America and Connecticut legalized slavery as well.
  • The Navigation Act

    British parliament past The Navigation Act in order to control the money in New World colonizes.
  • King Philip's War

    Also known as the Indian War, King Philip's War was a war against the Indians and British authority. They Indians didn't want be controlled by the English and they wanted them to stop taking their native land, so a war broke out. The war lasted from 1675 to 1676. The Indians not only lost the war, but lost twelve tribes as well.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    This rebellion was caused by Governor Berkeley refusing to provide military force to remove the Indian tribes , so that Virginians could expand westward. As a result, Bacon, who was Berkeley's cousin by marriage, formed a militia and attacked a tribe of Occaneechi people and destroyed their land. Bacon and twenty three other men were hung for their crime.
  • The Colonial Government Moved to the Williamsburg

    After Jamestown was abandoned because it was burned down, the colonial government moved to the Middle Plantations, which was renamed as Williamsburg.
