    Theodore Roosevelt was famous as a war hero for leading the Rough Riders into the Battle of San Juan Hill during the Spanish-American War. Roosevelt's presidency was well-known for his international diplomacy and his trust-busting.
  • Pure Food and Drug Act

    This act was spurred by public outcry over the depictions of the meat industry seen in Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle." This act set standards for cleanliness and freshness for food distribution centers such as the meatpacking factories of Chicago.

    Presidency - Woodrow Wilson

    President Wilson was the president that led America through the first world war. He also created the League of Nations, which would eventually become the precursor to the United Nations.

    World War I

    This incredibly deadly war showed to the world the destructive power that had been created from the Industrial Revolution. Alliances in Europe and Germany's desire to become a world power led to the war. America entered the war due to financial and political reasons, and because Germany had threatened its citizens.
  • Keating-Owen Child Labor Act

    This act banned the use of labor of minors under 14 years of age. The act put an end to a popular practice during the Gilded Age that left many poor children disfigured or dead due to awful conditions in factories.
  • Eighteenth Amendment

    This amendment outlawed the consumption or sale of alcoholic beverages. This was a major victory for the prominent Women's Christian Temperance Union.
  • Nineteenth Amendment

    This amendment granted women the right to vote on the national level.
  • Foundation of the League of Nations

    The League of Nations was created from Woodrow Wilson's Fourteen Points speech. Despite having been the inspiration for the league, the United States never entered the League due to wanting to return to isolationism after World War I.
