    The IBM Personal Computer Model 5150, more commonly known as the IBM PC, was introduced into the consumer market on August 12,1981. The IBM PC was developed by a team of engineers working under Don Estridge, who is credited as the "father of the IBM PC." The system was designed with an 'open architecture' that could be supported by both peripherals and expansion cards created by Third Party manufacturers.

    The CDP-101 Compact Disc Player was released by Sony on October 1, 1982. It was the first Compact Disc Player to become commercially available on the market. When it was released, it had a hefty price tag of $672, which caused it to be viewed as a product only available for the rich and wealthy.

Windows was designed as a graphical user environment that operated on top of the MS-DOS platform. This type of environment is called an operating system shell, as it required MS-DOS to be installed prior to installing the user interface.

    Adobe Illustrator 1.0 was developed by Mike Schuster, an engineer working for Adobe, Inc. Illustrator was released in January 1987 specifically for use with Apple Macintosh computers. It wasn't until 1989 that Illustrator became available for Windows-based computers. The concept of Illustrator was to be an easy-to-use drawing program that utilized Adobe's PostScript language, which allowed users to create professional quality print materials without the use of specialized equipment.

The Game Boy became a cultural icon in the 90's and is regarded as the third best-selling game console, with an estimated 118.69 million units sold worldwide over the course of its 14 year run.
