  • The WorldWideWeb Browser

    The WorldWideWeb Browser
    The browser was invented by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, who later found the World Wide Web Consortium. The WorldWideWeb browser (later renamed Nexus) was the first internet browser released in 1990. When it was first released it was the only way that a person could access the internet. This first step into the internet allows today for the exchange of new ideas, commerce, and collaboration.
  • The first text message

    In 1992 the first text message reading "Merry Christmas" was sent from Neil Papworth to Richard Jarvis. It would be a few years for the technology to become commercially viable. When it did eventually become available for consumers it became a great tool for quick messages for personal and business use.
  • DVDs

    In 1995 the DVD was developed and sealed the fate of the VHS. Several companies had made different types, but ultimately one variation was agreed on to avoid another VHS vs Betamax. The advent of the DVD brought better image and sound quality and brough home entertainment forward.
  • Google

    Google
    In 1996 Sergey Brin and Larry Page created the search engine that would later be named Google. Today it has become the number 1 search engine and allows people to quickly find information with a few key words.
  • USB Drive

    While flash memory was in use since the early 1980's it wasn't portable. There is some debate on who invented the usb; in 1999 when the patent for what we now today as the USB was filed by Amir Ban, Dov Moran, and Oron Ogdan. The thumb drive took flash memory portable and changed how people store and send date. Now you can back up personal date to booting up an operating system.
