    The Pencil

    The pencil dates back to 1564 replacing the slate and chalk. Pencils were produced in bulk in 1900s
  • Horn Book

    A wooden paddle with lessons printed on it.
  • Slide Rule

    Scientist and engineers used this for math until calculators were invented.
  • Slates and Chalk

    Paper was too expensive so a slate and chalk were used. People needed a cheaper way to write.
  • Magic Lantern

    The first attempt at a projector. The Magic Lantern projected images printed on glass plates onto walls.
  • Typewriter

    Introduced first by Christopher L. Sholes
  • Chalk board

    Chalk was used to write on larger black boards for classroom instruction.
  • Stereoscope

    3D viewing tool that helped teachers use images to illustrate points during instruction,
  • Radio and Film Projectors

    Airwaves was the first form of distance learning. Film projectors were a way to show movies in schools.
  • Overhead projector

    Allows teachers to display current actions of math or other problems on the board in front while doing the action.
  • Video, Ballpoint pen & Mimeograph

    Adding sound to a picture in a classroom. The pen was orginally invented in 1888 but put away until 1940s. Mimeograph was the first copy machines.
