Tim Berners-Lee first invented the World Wide Web in 1989. The public gained access to it in 1991. The world wide web has allowed us to connect to other computers and view other peoples creations online. -
SMS - Text message communication
The first SMS or text message was sent in 1992. The allowed people to communicate a short typed message to each other. SMS messaging is still a common technology and is offered on almost all phones. -
DVD
DVD technology was invented in 1995. It released to the public in 1996. It allowed us an ability to transport information and take it anywhere. -
MP3 players
Portable MP3 players first came around in 1998. They allowed us to listen to music without a disk. The very early models only hold 7-20 songs. -
USB flash drives
A patent relating to USB flash drives was first submitted in 1999. By 2000, flash drives were widely available for purchase. It allowed us safer transportation of information, when compared with DVDs that were not as durable.
