  • Photoshop

    Coded by brothers Thomas and John Knoll, photoshop was created to introduce photo editing to computers. After investment from Adobe it was released February 1990 and expanded into the industry leading photo editing software.
  • Linux

    Created by Linus Torvalds in 1991, Linux was supposed to just be a new operating system for torvald's Intel pc but became so much more. Linux is the largest open source software project in the world, meaning anyone can run, change, and share the source code. Open source has allowed for some of the most innovative developments in software.
  • Nokia 1011

    While the Nokia 1011 was not the first mobile phone sold, it was the first mass-produced one. It made incredible advancements compared to the mobile phones at the time, the main being its size. It was much smaller than any other on the market allowing for easier trasnsport.
  • DVD

    While the DVD mainly advanced the home entertainment market, its benefits were useful in computer technology as well. DVDs made software delivery and installation faster and easier as well as allowing for more storage taking up less physical space. No one person can be credited for the invention of the DVD as multiple companies developed their own iterations.
  • Google

    Google was created by co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. They were writing a program for a separate search engine as Stanford University and registered it under the domain name google.com. They continued to develop it and it became the world's largest search engine. The engine now has 4.3 billion users and the company has developed countless advancements in technology.
