    In 2004, Honda release the Accord Hybrid, the first mass production vehicle to combine hybrid technology with the performance of a V6 engine. This gave the vehicle a higher horse power rating than the standard V6 and had the miles per gallon better than most 4 cylinder engines in the market.

    In 2004, release as a 2005 new model, the first American made hybrid hits the market as the Ford Escape Hybrid. The vehicle was in such high demand, it manufactured 17,000 vehicles, 4 times as many planned. In 2005, starting in New York, the vehicle began being used as a taxi.

Testing boasted 245 miles per full charge with enough power to be compared to many gasoline powered engines, achieving a 0-60 time of less than 4 seconds.
