  • USB 2.0 (Universal Series Bus)

    USB 2.0 (Universal Series Bus)
    While USB 1.0 came out in 1996, it would not see widespread adoption until USB 2.0. Released in 2000,
    it would vastly changing how many devices are connected to computers. This would include the patent and subsequent creation of the USB flash drive. Most devices in the contemporary era now utilize USB ports.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)

    Amazon Web Services (AWS)
    Seeking to capitalize on Service Oriented Architecture (SoA), which became vastly more important in the new "Web 2.0" (a term coined by Darcy DiNucci in 1999) which focused on user interactivity, Amazon launches it's first web services to developers. Today, nearly half of all web services worldwide use AWS.
  • BlackBerry smartphone

    BlackBerry smartphone
    While the models would lack the features commonly associated with smartphones in the modern age, the BlackBerry became the first widely popular smartphone, particularly in America where it would garner the nickname "CrackBerry". The physical keyboard and data usage of the device allowed limited web browsing, utilizing the power given by the 3G network. This would carve the way later in the decade for the widespread adoption of smartphones (particularly the iPhone in 2007).
  • Java

    Java
    In 2006, Java would be released to the market as open-source code (with a small amount needing extra time and was released the following year). Most websites currently use some Java when being set up.
  • Google Chrome

    Google Chrome
    Google Chrome would be released as a browser to the public as a beta and would have a "stable" release on December 11 of the same year. It currently has a browser market share of around 60%+ across all devices (with Safari coming in #2 with just under 20%).
