Seven Years' War Begins
The Seven Years War was fought between the French and British in the New World, with Native Americans and colonists assisting in some battles. The British won but were left with high levels of debt, which were put onto the colonists in the form of taxes. -
Sugar Act Passed
The Sugar Act was a replacement for the Molasses Act and was used to help get rid of Britain's debt after the Seven Years War. -
Stamp Act Passed
The stamp act taxed all paper products for the colonists and was one of the least liked taxes in the colonies. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a riot that occurred in the middle of Boston between colonists and British soldiers. Five colonists were killed, and it is still contested on who started the violence. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was a protest event in which colonists dressed up as indigenous people and threw tea off of a ship in the Boston Harbor. Nobody was hurt and it is seen as one of the pivotal acts of protest in the quest for independence. -
Intolerable Acts Passed
Following protests, Britain passes the Intolerable Acts to show the colonists that they are still under British rule. These Acts include: the Port Bill, the Quartering Act, the Quebec Act, Administration of Justice Act, and the Massachusetts Regulating Act. -
Quebec Act Passed
The Quebec Act is considered one of the Intolerable Acts. It reestablished territory lines in the colonies and greatly angered a lot of settlers. -
Beginning of American Revolution
The American Revolution officially begins and the colonists begin fighting for their independence. -
