  • James Town 1607

    First colony to settle in Virginia, prompting many more colonists to come from Britain to come to america and make many more colonies.
  • Starving Period 1609-1610

    Colonists in Jamestown were not prepared to face such a cold winter, vast climate changes, and disease. These factors caused a large percent of the population to die. The remainders of the population had to eat leather, horses and even the dead.
  • First Cultivation of tobacco 1610

    The first cash crop grown in the Americas was tobacco. The necessity of tobacco spread which led to the start of slavery in America.
  • House of Burgesses

    The first English representative government in the Americas. Made to maintain order and pass laws in Jamestown.
  • First slaves in America

    August 1619 a Dutch ship of 20 slaves was sent to Jamestown. This marked the beginning of the commercial production of cash crops.
  • Mayflower

    A ship filled with 102 people sailed from England to the new world in order to find religious prosperity.
  • Mayflower Compact

    The Mayflower compact was the first document to establish self-government in the new world. This document help maintain order among the pilgrims and continued the idea of law made by people inspiring the constitution.
  • Flu Pandemic

    A pandemic that started in Asia which spread to Europe, Africa, North America, and South America. This was the first pandemic of the 17th century.
  • King Charles grants a charter to the Massachusetts bay Company

    This charter allowed the Massachusetts Bay Company to become a royal colony. This allowed the colony to partly self-govern as long as the laws were aligned with England's.
  • Salem Witch Trials 1692-1693

    The Salem Witch Trials took place in Salem Massachusetts, people started accusing others of witchcraft. By the end of the year over 200 people were accused of witchcraft, 19 killed by hanging, and 1 killed by being stoned to death.
  • Seven Year war 1756-1763

    A global conflict between France and England caused by their imperial rivalry and conflict between Prussia and Austria.
  • Currency Act

    An Act imposed upon colonists by the English government in order to pay war debt from the seven year war. This act regulated currency in the colonies from paper money to pound sterling.
  • Stamp Act

    The stamp act enacted by the British government, required anything made out of paper to have a stamp. All stamps had to be paid for and placed on paper in order for any paper to be used.
  • Sons of Liberty

    A group of instigators in colonial america who used civil disobedience to oppose English taxes/ laws.
  • Quartering act

    Required colonists to house and take care of British soldiers. This also meant anything the colonists the soldiers could take for their own.
  • Declaratory Act

    A response to the repeal of the stamp act. The declaratory act basically stated that all colonists must follow imperial law no matter what laws are imposed on the colonists.
  • Revenue Act

    The British government placed taxes on glass, led, paint, paper, and tea.
  • Boston Massacre

    An angry mod formed around British solider. Colonists started throwing things at the soldiers and a shot was fired. A street fight between colonists and British soldiers which led to five colonists deaths.
  • Boston Tea Party

    In retaliation to the revenue act colonists dressed up as Native Americans and took to a tea ship for vengeance. The colonist dumped all the tea on the ship into the ocean.
  • House of Burgesses Dissolved

    As punishment for the Boston tea party, Virginia's royal governor dissolved the assembly.
  • First use of the White House

    John Adams became the first president to take residence in the white house.
  • Thomas Jefferson becomes president

    After beating John Addams in an election Thomas Jefferson became the third president of the United States.
  • Lewis and Clark 1804-1806

    Funded by Thomas Jefferson, Lewis and Clark were sent to map uncharted land, rivers, and mountains. Through their journey they brought back information about Native Americans, scientific discoveries, and stories of their day to day lives.
  • British Troops Burn down Washington Dc

    After the war of 1812, British troops marched on and set fire to the U.S capitol and other landmarks.
  • The Indian Was of 1812

    With conflicts between Great Britain and America, Native Americans became pulled into conflict. In hopes of gaining independence, Natives sided with Britain.
  • Stars and Stripes of the U.S flag

    The design of the American flag was changed so that there were 13 stripes for the original colonies, and a star for every state.
  • U.S congress enacts first immigration Law

    The Steerage Act of 1819, also called the Manifest of Immigrants Act, was an Act passed by the United States federal government on March 2, 1819. This act helped regulate the conditions of transportation used by people arriving and departing by sea
  • The Monroe Doctrine

    The Monroe Doctrine was a warning to European powers to stop messing with affairs of the western hemisphere.
  • Indian removal act

    Signed by Andrew Jackson, the Indian removal act allowed colonist to live on federal land. In exchange the Natives could live west of the Mississippi river.
  • Trail of tears

    The US government forced Native Americans living between Michigan, Louisiana, and Florida to relocate west. The trail of tears caused many Natives to die, not only was the trail of tears a harsh journey but the natives were also treated poorly by colonists.
