    The Sepratists, also called Pilgrims wanted to come to America because they wanted their children to grow up in the English but be able to worship anyway they chose. In 1620 the Pilgrims sailed across the Atlantic Ocean for America to start their new lives.

    The Great Awakening shook up the English colonies. This religious movement caused an outpouring of Christian faith. It also prompted new ways of thinking about the church and society.

    Battle of Saratoga/ Yorktown
    At the Battle of Saratoga, the American army kept on fighting bsck to the British and ened up winning the battle making a turnning point in the war for the Americans.
    At the Battle in Yourktown, George Washington and his troops gained many soliders from France helping them win the battle and to help block off the Cheasapeke Bay which helped them win the battle.

    The signing of the Treaty of Paris marked the end of the Revolutionary War and declared peace between Amereica and Great Britian.
  • Shay's Rebelion

    Shay's Rebelion
    There was a money shortage and it was particularly hard on farmers who could not earn enough to pay their debts and taxes. In Massachusetts, judges ordered farmers to sell their land and livestock to pay off their debts. Led by Daniel Shays, a hero of the Battle of Bunker Hill, Massachusetts farmers rebelled. In 1786, Shays and his followers closed down courthouses to keep judges from taking their farms. Then they marched on the national arsenal at Springfield to seize the weapons stored there.

    This is when many people decided on how our country would be runned. Some people signed it and others didn't depending on if they agreed with what the document stated.

    A fromal listing of the rights for every citizens. It lists the common day rights that we use everyday for example, the freedom of speech and religion.

    This election was between Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. Thomas Jefferson won this election against John Adams.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    This is when the United States purchased the Louisiana Territory from the French. They bought this area for $15 million. Many people were not happy about this becuase they thought that it would be too hard to govern that large of an area.
  • Lewis and Clark Expedition

    Lewis and Clark Expedition
    Lewis and Clark travled up the Missouri River trying to find a water route to the Pacific Ocean. They found the Pacific Ocean in Oregon and returned home to St. Louis after 28 months of travel.
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    Congress declared war on Great Britian. The reason for declaring war were, impressment of sailors, safe lands, direct route to Canada, and the Indians were given weapons. It was a bad war that lasted for 3 years. The treaty of Ghent eneded this war. But before the news of the treaty reached Americans in Louisiana the Battle of New Orleans was fought.

    This song was written after Francis Scott Key saw an American flag waving in the air after the battle at Fort McHenry. He wrote the lyrics to a poem he was saying while he was captured.

    Jacksonian Democracy
    The idea that the common people should control the government. This is what presidnet Jackson believed when he was elected as presidnet in November of 1828.
  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    The removal of Cherokee Indians from Georgia to Indian Territory in 1838 and 1839. This is known as the Trail of Tears becuase so many peopled died on their way to the Indian Territory.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    An agreement made by Congress in 1820 under which Missouri was admitted to the Union as a slave state. Maine was also admitted into the Union as a free state
  • Civil War

    Civil War
    This was a war between the north and the south states of America. They were fighting against and for slavery. The south wanted the nation to be a slave nation while the north wanted to have a free nation. The north won the war and the battle ended on April 9, 1865.
