French and Indian War
The French and Indian war started in May 28, 1754 and ended in February 10, 1763. The war was between the French and the British in the new colonies. The reason the war happened was because French were angered that British colonists were arriving at the Ohio River Valley, and both French and British claimed that land. French started building forts to protect their land and the British took it as an attack from the French and that is when the war began. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was issued on October 7, 1763 by King George iii. This law drew a line along the Appalachian mountains. That line did not allow colonist to continue their Westward expansion. The law was issued after the French and Indian war. King George iii did not want colonist to pass the Appalachian mountains because it was going to cost him more money to protect them in the west. Colonist were angered. -
Sugar Act
The sugar act was passed by Parliament in April 5, 1764. This act required the merchants to pay tax on all sugars. The reason this act was passed was because parliament wanted to raise revenue from the 13 colonies and to pay their debt from the war. -
Stamp Act
The stamp act was passed by the British parliament on March 22, 1765.The stamp act required colonists to pay tax on every piece of paper, all types of paper were being taxed on. The reason this act was passed was to raise money to pay for the colonist protection. -
Quartering Act
The quartering act was passed in May 5, 2015 by the British Parliament.This act required colonist to give shelter to British soldiers. The reason this act was passed was passed was to raise revenue. -
Townshend Act
The townshend act was passed by British Parliament in June 6, 1767. This act put a tax on glass, lead, paints, paper and tea. The reason for this act was to collect revenue from the colonists in America. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre happened in April 5, 1770. In the Boston Massacre the British soldiers shot and killed people while being attacked by a mob. Approximately five colonist died in the massacre. The reason this happened was because colonist were protesting the townshend acts. -
Committees of Correspondence
The committees of correspondence is a shadow government organized by patriot in November 4, 1772. The reason for this was to oppose the British policies. -
Tea Act
The tea act was passed by British government in May 10, 1773. This act required the British east India tea company to pay a tax on each tea that was sold. The reason for this act was to bail out the British east India tea company, not to raise revenue. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston tea party happened in December 16 1773. The Boston tea party was a political protest by the Sons of liberty, and they threw tea into the Boston harbor. The reason this happened was because the sons of liberty believed in no taxation without representation and they protested against tax on tea. -
Intolerable Acts
The intolerable acts was passed in April 24, 1774. The reason for these acts was to punish the colonists for the Boston tea party. -
First Continental Congress
The first continental congress was a meeting with delegates from all the 13 colonies from September 5, 1774 to October 26, 1774. This meeting was caused due to the intolerable acts which the British passed to punish the colonists. -
Lexington and Concord
The battle of Lexington and Concord was the war that started the American revolutionary war. Tensions had been building up from the 13 colonies and the British. -
Second Continental Congress
The second continental congress happened after the first successful continental congress. The second one happened in May 10, 1775. The reason for this was because the American revolutionary war had started. -
