  • The Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet

    The Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet
    In 1963 Boeing was created , it was designed for the military as they need a large transport for when carrying everyone overseas including all of their equipment, it was created to hold around 350 people at one time. It was a very large aircraft, very long and very wide, it was designed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the United Kingdom, it was created 1958 and took it's first flight only 11 years later.
  • Concorde

    Concorde
    Concorde was designed and used to carry passengers around the globe, it was built by the British and French manufacturers. On the 26th September 1973 it took it's first flight crossing the transatlantic. the jumbo jet was the best they had travelling around 250mph for take off and a cruising speed of 3500mph. Concorde no longer flies after the cost of maintenance, last flight was October 2003.
  • Clarkson going into liquidation

    Clarkson going into liquidation
    Clarkson Travel Group was a very popular tour operator in the 1960s and early 1970s. It specialised in creating cheap package holidays, flights and what board they want. They only flew short haul flights such as Spain and Italy. In 1972 they had financial difficulties but after being taken to court they were soon handed over to a new company who was high up in the chain, however on the 15th of August in 1974 the company went bust leaving Clarkson owing £100,000 to customers
  • Launch of Ryanair

    Launch of Ryanair
    Ryanair is an Irish low-cost airline, founded by Michael O'leary. In July 1985 Ryanair took it's very first flight, flying from Ireland to London Gatwick. Ryan air is a low-costing airline making it a very popular airline, in 2012 they had 75.8 million passengers and in 2021 the numbers increased to 148.6 million passengers

    In the last few years the tourist have been entering different countries all over the world visiting place they want to see, more and more topping over 400 million in 1989. So what's started this? More airlines were introduced such as Ryanair allowing people to travel globally and more monunmets and man made attractions became open to tourists

    Tim Bernes a British scientist created the WWW also known as The World Wide Web. It was originally created and developed for scientists in universities to share information around the world. The WWW is massive with around 4.88 billion internet users.
  • Channel Tunnel

    Channel Tunnel
    The Channel tunnel was founded in the UK and has been one of the biggest projects yet, taken them five year to complete with around 13,000 works from England and France coming together. The Channel Tunnel is 50km long connecting the UK and France. On average The Channel Tunnel takes around 60,000 passengers through the tunnel every day.

    Easy Jet is a British airline that is low cost for all tourists, it has over 1,000 different routes with 30 countries. It is owned and founded by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou. Due to COVID the number of passengers have decreased by 50% with only 48.1 million passengers travelling with them in the year 2020 compared to the following year
  • Tomorrows Tourism

    Tomorrows tourism was made by the Government to open and widen the tourist attractions to try and get people to take longer holidays, to visit new places and get more money out of the public
  • Millennium Dome

    The Millennium dome was created to celebrate the third Millennium for the public. The Dome was built by Richard Rogers and Mike Davies and co, British architects. The Dome is no used for many different events from sports, music and many other thing. It has also be renamed the Principallity Stadium
  • Indiana tsunami

    Indiana tsunami
    The tsuanmi hit Indiana on boxing day wiping out buildings and people. It was known as the worlds deadliest tsuanmi killing more than 230,000 people across 14 different countries. It was triggered by a 9.1 magnitude earth quake, the tsuanmi lasted 7 hours and reached out too Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Maldives, Thailand and as far as East Africa.
  • Hurricane Katrina

    Hurricane Katerina was a massive hurricane that wiped out through 5 different countries, it caused over 1,800 deaths and caused $125 billion worth of damage. he hurricane started on the 23rd of August and didn't finish till the 31 August lasting over a week. It hit places such as New Orleans, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and many more.
  • Chile earthquake

    The Chile earthquake started off the coast of central Chile with a magnitude of 8.8 quakes, it was created by the Nazca and South American plates converging. The earthquake took out more than 500 people and destroyed around 220,000 different homes and villages washing it all away.
  • Icelandic Ash Cloud

    Icelandic Ash Cloud
    It was created by series of volcanic eruptions that combined together in Eyjafjallajokull Iceland. There was worry that the ash cloud was that strong it would effect any aircraft that would try to pass through it so many airspace in Europe was shut down, eight days later it cleared and aircrafts were allowed to pass through it however the damage was already done with 107,000 flights cancelled resulting in 47,000 missing there flights
  • Arab Spring

    The Arab Spring was a protest, it began in response to to corruption and economic stagnation and was influenced by the Tunisian revolution. It started on the 18th of December and didn't end until December 2012. Because of all the protesting and violence happening no tourist wanted to enter the country in that year, it dropped to 47,000 instead of 186,000 UK visitors

    Even though websites such as tripadvisor or TUI has helped the travel industry grow it has also effected the high street. You can also now red reviews, some will be bad effecting people visiting that area. Due to online websites now you dont have to visit your local travel agent but instead you can just do it all yourself.

    In the past couple of years tourists have prefered to stay local than travelling abroad for a quiet getaway. You have things like Haven, Centre Parcs and local places that you can book a few nights away. It works out cheaper and easier for people who may need to book time off work, need things like child care or simply cant afford a week away.
  • COVID 19

    COVID 19 was first founded in December 2019 as it entered the UK, the virus started in China and is believed to have come from as bat. Due to COVID the travel industry has struggled massively. The UK had a massive 98.3% fall of passenger, in February they had around 6,804,900 British tourists fly and in April only 112,300 flyers. Accommodation and tourists attractions struggled massively falling 9.3% of their February levels in May 2020
