Lewis and Clark already knew eachother, so when Lewis asked Clark to join him on the expedition he agreed. -

Lewis and Clark announced that they would begin their expedition, this starts it off. -
Expedition begins
Most of the people who knew about the expedition or had reletives that were going on it didn't believe they would make it back home. This is also the beginning of their 2 year long journey. -
Corps of Discovery meet with representatives of the Oto and Missouri Indians, give peace medals, 15 star flags and other gifts
This is the beginning of many encounters with Indians on their expedition. -
All of the men attempt to drown a never-before-seen prarie dog out of its hole for shipment back to Jefferson
The prarie dog was named because Clark observed that it yipped and barked like a dog, but it lived on a prarie. -
Confrontation with Teton Sioux, who demand one of their boats as a toll to further travel. Chief Black Buffalo resolves situation before any issues.
This is one of the first semi-issues that the men had with any Indians, though they did end up making peace. -
Sacagawea gives birth to a baby boy, Jean Baptiste
Sacagawea and her son both survive the entire expedition. -
Lewis and another hunter kill a large grizzly bear, which had never before been described for science.
Lewis and Clark both liked to collect new species of animals that have never been seen for science. -
Lewis discovers Shoshones and tries to negotiate horses. Sacagawea recognizes her brother, the chief Cameahwait. Site is named Camp Fortunate.
The Shoshones go on part of the expedition with them, letting them use the horses. -
The expedition reaches the Columbia River
This is a major check point for the men, this is where they get enroute to Clatsop -
By majority vote the expedition decides to cross to the south side of the Columbia River to build winter quarters.
This will be a temporary home for the expedition throughout the winter. -
Fort Clatsop is presented to the Clatsop indian, for which it was named, and the expedition begins the journey home.

With the current of Missouri behind them, they are able to cover over 70 miles per day. The expedition also begins meeting boats of American traders heading upriver.
With the pick up in speed, they will be able to make it to St. Louis in no time. -
Lewis and Clark reach St. Louis
Their expedition is now over and they are alive and well, even when no one thought they would be. -
Lewis and Clark and treated as national heroes. All men recieve double pay and 320 acres of land as reward, the captains get 1,600 acres. Lewis is named gov. of Louisiana Territory, Clark is made Indian agent for Went and brigadier general of the territor
Lewis ends up killing himself after being the governor.
