Pike's Peak
Pike and his crew set out in 1806. They reached the future city of Pueblo. To the north, they saw a peak.. They named it Grand Peak.. John C. Fremont named it Pike's Peak.. -
Fur trappers
In the 1820's , new pathfinders arrived. They were fur trappers . At that time, beaver pelts, or skins with fur on them, were in great damand. -
Indian Trade
By the 1830's , trade in bison hides was more important than fur trapping. Traders could buy a bision hide from the Indians for three dollars worth of trade goods . -
Bent's Fort
Bent's Fort was built like a walled town. It contained a storeroom, trading room and many, many more.
