The Ending of Slavery
The Dutch were confined to a narrow island untill the abolition of slavery. Before this, slaves worked on plantaions harvesting sugarcane and coffee. Whenever slaves escaped, they went to the mainland. There, they mnaged to keep their religions of Africa. The Dutch called them the "bush Negroes". In 1870, Natives from the West Indies were imported as slaves. -
The Netherlands Absorb Suriname
Tn 1948, the kinngdom of the Netherlands fully intigrated the Republic of Suriname as their own country. -
Suriname Becomes Its Own
Except for defense and forign affairs, Suriname becomes an independant country. But, after the people of Suriname rioting (Nov. of 1975) because of unemployment and inflimation, the Netherlands gave Suriname complete independance. -
Netherlands Stop Being Helpful
The Netherlands stop any and all aid when Surinamese soilders shoot 15 politicians, union officials, lawyers, and journalists. -
Prime Minister Position Abolished
Prime Minister Position Abolished in 1998, only to be taken up be the position of a vice president, who is in charge of the Ministers. The Vice President is the second in cammand, with the president being the first. The vice president wins by a two-third vote of National Assembly of Suriname. -
Presidential Elections
After the 70% imflimation rate, the former president (Jules Wijdenbosch) held elections a year before it was supposed to take place. The new president was Ronald Venetiaan. He was also reelected in the elections of 2005. -
Robert Ameerali As The Vice President
Henck Arron was the first vice president. Robert Ameeral has been the vice president since August 12, 2010. In 2015, President Bouterse was reelected by parlenemt. Robert Ameerali Stayed as the vice president. -
Mega Combination coalition
The Mega Combination coalition (lead by dictator Dési Bouterse) won a two-thirds vote by Parliment, and elected by Parlient in August.
