Summer in Portugal

  • Preparing for the Trip

My family and I were getting ready for our annual summer trip to Portugal to visit my family. Before we were ready to embark on our journey, we needed to make sure we had everything we needed for our trip. We had to make sure everyone had clothes and shoes to take, games to entertain us on the plane, and gifts to bring my grandparents. Then, we packed our belongings into suitcases and got a good night's rest for our trip.
  • Getting to the Airport

The day of our trip had arrived! My father, mother, brothers, and I packed our things into the car and headed for the airport. It would be a few weeks before we came back to our house again.
  • The Airport

Once we got to the airport, we had to check in, pass security, and find our gate for our flight. The airport was very large and it took a long time to navigate through it. We had to ensure that we gave ourselves plenty of time to get to our gate!
  • The Flight

Once we got onto the plane, we had to buckle our seatbelts, make sure our bags were either in the overhead bins or at our feet, and wait for take off. My mom made sure my brothers and I had gum to chew for when the plane takes off. When planes take off, your ears start to pop, but the act of chewing help prevent this. The plane began its trip down the runway and, before long, we were rising into the air. Our flight had begun! It would be around 6-7 hours before we arrived in Portugal.
  • Arriving in Portugal

After 6-7 hours of games, snacks, and naps it was time to land in Portugal. When we looked out the window, we could see the vast greenery of the country. The fasten your seatbelts light went on, and we began our descent. Once the plane hit the ground, the passengers all started clapping, happy to have arrived safely. Once we got off the plane, we had to check in and find our bags. Waiting for us were my grandfathers, eager to drive us to their houses! I missed them so much!
  • My Grandparents' Houses

When we arrived, we were happily greeted by everyone. There was tons of hugging and kissing. It had been a whole year since we last saw everyone. Also waiting for us was a huge feast my grandmothers made. Shrimp and beef empanadas, fried crab claws, fluffy rice, golden potatoes, and multiple kinds of meat! And a lot of bread for good measure. After lunch, we took a nap, exhausted from our long trip and eager to see what the rest of the trip would bring.
