Andrew Jackson is elected president
Jackson promises the country that they will expand the united states westward. He stated "'What good man would prefer a country covered with forest and ranged by a few thousand savages to our extensive republic, studded with cities, towns and prosperous farms and filled with all the blessings of liberty, civilization and religion?'" He essentially starts westward expansion, and the westward movement of slavery. -
Slavery outlawed in Texas
The Mexican government abolished slavery in Texas in 1829, however, white slave owners just forced their former slaves to sign contracts to make them indentured servents. -
