  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Virgian settlers lead by Bacon fought the governer trying to take the native's land so that they had more land to grow crops on.

    Bacon was a poor farmer in virgina who gathered other poor famers demanding more land to try and get the officials in the area to allow them to take native property. He was defeated and died a year later.

    the Great Awakining caused people to want individual control and religous freedom

    There was poor church attendance in the colonies. Ideas were shared across the colonies that supported religous freedom and self government. This caused ideas of revolution to exist but not spark.

    Great Britain and France were both expanding outwars and eventualyfought for land at the ohio river vally. The British won this war and gained lots of land, giving some of it to the natives in hope of making peace.

    The treaty of paris ended the French and Indian war. This treaty caused France to give up all of their land in the center of north america.

    This traety ended the French and indean war. the treaty of paris kicked the French out of the area, and prevented colonist from expanding far out as to give land to the natives. The colonists grew angry and wantd the new native land.

    The proclomation line of 1763 is a part of the Treaty of Paris that prevented the English colonies from expanding beyond the appalachain moutains, giving that land to the natives.
  • Pontiac’s Rebellion

    The French have always been nicer to the natives than the British. Upset with the turnout of the French and Indian war, native leader Pontiac led a rebellion aginst the British. He was defeated and inspired a few others to try as well.
  • Quartering Act

    this act caused the colonist to have to house the British soldiers if there was not enough space in the barracks.

    The stamp act was a law passed by Britsh parlament which required that the colonists pay a tax on all legal documents

    To stop the colonists from smuggling goods, the British place soldiers in the colonies. A british act on the colonies that forced colonists to house and feed British soldiers if there was not enough room in the Barracks. The colonists hated this and rebelled ocasionally.

    After the French and Indian War, the British had to pay for their war debts. A tax placed on the colonists which taxed them on all legal documents. The colonist hated this law and would boycot certain items.
  • Townshend Acts

    Britain again wanted money and taxed the colonists once more. A group of new laws that reinforced the quartering act and taxed everything like, galss, windows, paint, etc. The women of the colonies set up boycott systems.
  • Boston Massacre

    Because of all the taxes and new laws, tensions between the British and colonies rose. A fight broke out in Boston between a crowd of people and a British bregade. 11 casualties but few deaths. the British soldiers opened fire, both sides blaming the other. a few of the British were hanged and colonists used this event as propoganda.
  • Tea Act

    Britains India tea company was struggling, so they taxed the colonists on tea to help pay for the company and England. Colonists hated this act and revolted with the Boston tea party
  • Boston Tea Party

    England placed a tea tax on all american goods. A group of colonists dressed up as native americans went over the Boston harbor and dumped tea into the ocean. The British became upset and put out the Intolerable acts.
  • First Continental Congress

    Most of the 13 colonies meet up to discuss their views on what to do after the intolerable acts. They made a list of demands to Britian in hopes of making peace.
  • Coercive Acts

    After the Boston tea party, Britain had to punish the colonists. They put out a group of laws called the Coercive Acts, or Intolerable Acts. this added more British military, stronger quartering act and more.
