  • Videotape Recorder- 1951

This was first made by Charles Ginsburg in 1951 for Ampex Corporation. It revolutionized television broadcasting. Without this invention, television would not be what we know it as today. It allowed video and sound to be recorded so you could rewatch it. Now a days we don't really have any use for recording our TV shows and movies that are broadcast because we have streaming services which is like the new way to keep audio/visual media like tv shows
  • Handheld calculator- 1965

The first handheld calculator was made in 1965 Jerry Merryman and others at Texas Instruments. Personally, I don't know what I would have done without a calculator in all my math classes in high school and even some of my classes today.
  • Pong-1972

Pong was the first video game ever. We've come a long way since bouncing a ball back and forth on a screen. As someone who grew up playing on my dads old gaming system and now enjoys some games like the Sims, it's really cool how much the visuals and stories of different game have developed in the last 50 years.
  • Compact Discs-1982

Also called CDs, this was a new technology to play digital audio recordings. By Sony and Philips, the technology for these discs also lead the way for DVDs which are kind of the same but also have the capabilities for visual as well as audio. These discs are still used today as a way to listen to music and I personally collect them to play in my car.
  • Digital Video Discs (DVDs)-1995

These are a digital optical disc data storage format. These are used for storing and watching movies and other data as well. These kind of replaced VHS tapes as the main way to watch movies and stuff. The took up way less space and could hold more data. I grew up mostly using DVDs and still do use them today but they have now been demoted after the rise of streaming services which have all the same shows and movies you love, at your fingertips.
