French and Indian War
Large imperial war between Great Britain and France. Also know as the Seven Year's War.It ended with the Treaty of Paris. It permanently shifted the global balance of power. Both powers wanted to extend their North American colonies west into the area known as the Ohio Territory. -
Proclamation Line 1763
Issued by King George III following Great Britain's acquisition of French territory in North America after the end of the 7 Year's War. It forbade all settlement past a line along the App. Mountains. -
Sugar Act
Parliament passed a modified version of the Molasses Act. Under this act merchants had been required to pay a tax of six pence per gallon on the importation of foreign molasses. The purpose of lowering the price was to induce importers to buy from British colonies instead of smuggling from Spanish colonies. -
Stamp Act
An act that was passed by the British Parliament. The new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper used. -
Townshend Act
This was a series of British acts passed. They were named after Charles Townshend. They imposed duties on glass, lead, paints, paper and tea. Imported from other countries. The whole purpose of this act was so that the King could start to tax the people of the United States. -
Boston Massacre
Boston Massacre was a street fight. It was because British soldier opened fire on a group of American Colonist killing 5 members. The British were there to stop demonstrations but instead provoked the Americans. -
Boston Tea Party
It was a plan to show the Parliament how they felt about the tea act.They didn't want to pay taxes on the tea. They boarded the British ship dressed as Native Americans and dumped the entire load of tea into the water. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party started because the colonists didn't want to pay taxes on British Tea. A group of the colonist boarded the ship dressed as Natives and threw all of the Tea into the Harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
Also known as the Coercive Act. They were laws passed by the British intended to punish Americans for the Boston tea Party. -
Lexington and Concord
They were the first military engagements of the American revolutionary War. They were fought in Middlesex County of Massachusetts Bay. They were fought because troops were sent to confiscate weapons but instead they ran into an angry mob and were defeated.
