Why Haven't We Seen a Photograph of the Whole Earth Yet?
Stewart thought of an idea to get NASA to take pictures of the planet for the general public to see. He passed around buttons that would say " Why haven't we seen a photograph of the whole Earth yet?" which led to more and more people supporting the idea that NASA should publish photos of Earth. -
Augmented Human Intellect
Helped design the Augmented Human Intellect demonstration by Doug Engelbart. This demonstration inspired the idea of personal computers. -
Whole Earth Catalog
Stewart wrote and published the Whole Earth Catalog which listed several "tools" as he called it. The tools listed range from books to courses one could take to learn more about different subjects that at its time were new and radical. -
Point Foundation
This foundation was non-profit and its goal was to give money to individuals that would have an impact. It gave a total of a million within three years. -
Two Cybernetic Frontiers
Stewart wrote the book "Two Cybernetic Frontiers" which was the first book to mention a personal computer and to talk about computer hackers. -
Next Whole Earth Catalog
Stewart eventually wrote another version of the Whole Earth Catalog with updated information. This is the latest edition. -
WELL
WELL stands for Whole Earth Lectronic Link which was the first virtual community. Founded by Stewart, WELL required users to provide real names in order to cut down on the meaningless post and create worthwhile discussion. -
Global Business Network
Stewart co-founded the Global Business Network with four others. This network connected several big global businesses like Ford and Federal Express and provided networking for other similar experts. -
How Buildings Learn: What happens after they're built
This book is sometimes used in architecture and preservation classes. Many tech people see this book as one about systems and software design. -
Long Now Foundation
Co founded along with Danny Hillis, the Long Now Foundation aims to create more long term thinking. With the rise of technology, many have stopped thinking about the future as much and we are starting to think more about short term things. Projects of this foundation include a clock and a library. The 10,000 year clock was built to create interest in the long term future as it bongs once per century and only ticks once a year. -

All Species Inventory
Co founded alongside Kevin Kelly and Ryan Phelan, the goal of this project was to catalog all species on Earth within the last 25 years. Ran out of money but set a trend of species discovery and cataloging. -
Gene Burd Urban Journalism Award
Received a Gene Burd Urban Journalism Award in 2008 from the Urban Communication Foundation. This award is given to those that help inspire through journalism. -
Revive and Restore
Stewart co-founded Revive and Restore along with Ryan Phelan. The goal of this project is to find a way to revive extinct species in order to increase Earth biodiversity.
