Steps to Become a Teacher

  • Basic Skills Examination

I'll need to start preparing myself for the basic skills tests for becoming a teacher. The best way to study for the exam would be to complete the practice tests for the THEA and ACCUPLACER. Then take the basic skills test to move further with my Education Degree.
  • Maintain a 2.75 GPA

I will need to maintain a 2.75 GPA in order to further my education to become a teacher. I will have to continue to work hard in each of my classes.Preferably have a higher GPA than a 2.75 that way I will feel more secure with moving onto my next few courses that i will need to take to become a teacher.
  • TEP Application

Before I can take my other education classes I will have to complete the TEP application. I'll have to sign and agree with the way I'll have to interact with my future students and peers. By the time I am done with all of theses steps I will most likely be traveling to schools being a student teacher. Which means filling out this application is very important.
  • TExES Exams

After completing the TEP application I will need to take the TExES exams and pass them with a 75 in order to start my student teaching in the fall. to properly prepare myself for these exams I will attend the practice testing sessions on the first Saturday of each month. After passing the TExES practice exams I will need to be approved by Linda Kobler to take the real TExES exams. After passing those I will qualify for student teaching.
  • Student Teacher

After passing my TExES exams I will be able to learn from the teacher i will be assisting how to properly run the classroom. Then later during the semester they will allow me to run the class myself with their help if needed. This will probably be the most exciting part of the process to graduating and becoming a real teacher.
  • Certification

After completing my student teaching I will be eligible for my certification. I will need to have completed my degree program, have passed all of my TExES exams, and also have my degree on my transcript.
