Nightmare in the cave
The man is having a dream of being led in toa cave by his son and in the back of the cave there is a tranluscent monster the symbolizes people and things that are now in the world that they live in. -
The Woman Flashback
The man has a dream that shows his wife leaving him and the son to go on alone. She goes off into the woods and kills herself. She is symbollic of the man's past and she brings up the question whether or not the man is going to put himself and the son out of their misery. -
Coca-Cola
The man finds a good can of coke and gives it ti the son. Thiis coke is everything theat the son's life will never be. The man starts to realize that his son will never have the life the man once had. -
The man's childhood home
The man and the boy come across the man's childhood home. The boy is very aprehensive and frightend by being inside the home.It shows an insight into the man's past. -
The waterfall
The man and the boy come across the waterfall. They swim in the water and the man teaches the boy to float. The waterfall symbolizes the bond between the man and the son. It also stands for the man preparing the son for future experiences. -
The man struck by lightning
While walking on the road, the man and the boy pass a man who has been struck by lightning. The man refuses to help even though the boy is begging and crying to help the man. The boy then questions the father if they truly are "the good guys". The interaction between the man struck by lightening, the man and the boy show how morals are changing in this ruined world. -
Survivors
A truck full of survivors comes upon the man and the boy, who hide in the woods. The truck breaks down and one of the men finds them in the woods. The bad man grabs the boy, and tries to convince the man and boy to join them. The man shoots the bad guy. They escape into the woods, The boy wants to know if they are still the good guys, despite his father's committing a murder. Now the pistol has only one bullet left, and the man knows that this bullet is for his son should the time come. -
People in the basement
The man comes across the house. he and the boy go inside to find supplies and the find a locked door. The break the lock and enter the basement. In the basement the see people chained to the wall and a man with boy parts cut off. THe frightend boy begged to leave. The man and the boy ran. These people were victims of cannibalism and it showsthe lack of morals in the new world. -
The bunker
They come upon another house, and the man feels something strange under his feet as he walks from the house to the shed. He digs and finds a plywood door in the ground. What they discover is a bunker, full of luxuries of the old world and enough food to last a long while. It is a garden of eden in the middle of their constant hell. The man realizes that he'd been ready to die, but they would live. This is hard for the man to accept. The man and boy stay in the bunker for days. -
Ely
The man and the boy are traveling along the road when they run into a old, blind man named Ely. The boy can see that Ely is starving, so he convinces the man to let Ely eat with them. The man agrees, but tells his son that Ely can't stay with them for long. The next day as they prepare to part ways, the boy gives Ely some food to take with him. -
The boys nightmare
The boy dreams that when he tries to wake up the man, the man does not wake up. This nightmare alludes to the mans death -
Baby Food
There are people following the man and the son: three men and a woman, whom is very pregnant. The man and boy hide and let the group pass. Later, the man and boy come upon their camp and discover the baby skewered and roasted over an open fire. This symbolizes how desperate people are to survive in this world. -
The coast
The man and the boy finally reached the water. It is not as warm as they would hoped it would have been. They search the land for supplies. -
The ship
THe man discovers a ship. He swims out to the boat and retrieves supplies for the boy and himself. His body can barely keep up wit the reality of how cold it is. His coughing is worsened. -
The theif
Someone steals all of the man and the boy's posessions. The amn and the boy follow the tracks in the sand and come across the theif. The man makes the theif give them his clothes and they left the theif how he left them without anything. THe boy is once again conflicted if they really are the "good guys". -
The death of the man
THe man finally is coming to his final breaths. He can't come to end his sons life, so he directs his son to move on without him. Sad, and reluctant the boy agrees. The boy waits until the morning to leave, He then leaves his father by their ashed fire. -
The followers
A man with a shot gun approaches the boy. He and his group had been following the boy and the man. The man with the shotgun invited the boy to come with them. He had a little girl and boy. The man tells the boy that he carries the fire too.
