Its starting to get a little cold out
The cold war started in 1945 right after WW II and ended in 1991. The soviet union was trying to spread communism. America was trying to contain communism and aid the countries that were against the soviets. -
Shoot the plane down, I dare you.
The Berlin airlift started when Russia closed off all of the roads to Berlin. In result of this, they flew planes over Berlin and dropped supplies to the people who were there. Russia could not do anything about the planes because it would have started WW III. -
Wonder what this does...
The soviet union started testing Atomic Bombs in 1949. The first test was called "first lightening" and it was very similar to America's first atomic bomb. -
Fired!!
In 1951, President Truman fired general MacArthur. Truman fired him because Truman didn't want to use nuclear weapons against the Soviet Union. MacArthur wanted to use nuclear weapons against the Soviets and so Truman relieved him of his duties as General. -
Round 2 for Eisenhower
President Eisenhower was elected on January 20, 1953 and he was re-elected in 1957. When he was re-elected, his opponent was Adlai Stevenson, a former governor of Illinois. -
Tragedy?
Joseph Stalin was born on December 18, 1878, in Gori, Georgia and died on March 5, 1953 in Kuntsevo Dacha. Stalin was General secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist party of the Soviet Union. -
The space race
This was in October of 1957. It was a rivalry between the Soviets and the U.S trying to see who could go farther in space. Eventually, they were brought together and made the international space station. -
Explorer 1
Explorer 1 was the first satellite of the U.S. It was launched in January of 1958 operated by the Army Ballistic Missile Agency. Its last contact was in May of 1958. -
The U-2 Incident
During the Cold War on May 1st, 1960, an American U-2 spy plane took "one more mission" flying over Russia. It was then shot down while flying in Russian airspace and the pilot, Francis Grey Powers was captured by the soviets. -
Bay of Pigs
In April of 1961, the U.S miserably failed to invade Cuba. -
The Berlin wall
The Berlin wall was constructed on August 13,1961, or at least that is when the construction started. It divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989. It is open from Tuesday through Monday at 8AM to 10PM. -
Assassination of Kennedy
President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. He was shot twice by a man named Lee Harvey Oswald who was arrested an hour after the assassination. -
Germany reunites
East Germany was no longer communist and they reunited with West Germany. The War Saw Pact's days were numbered. -
The wall crashes
The Berlin wall fell almost just as fast as it went up. The wall fell in November of 1989.
