Teresa runs away
St. Teresa ran away from home to the land of the moors to die a martyrs death in order to see God. "I want to see God" Teresa told her parents. She was unsuccesful to reach the land. -

St. Teresa enters the Augustinian convent
Shortly after the death of Teresa's mother, She entered into the care of the Augustinian convent. -

St. Teresa falls ill and has to leave the Augustinian convent to return home. -

Falls ill and leaves the convent
St. Teresa falls seriously ill, she travels to the city of Becedas where she seeks to be healed. She has no luck and the sickness only worsens. -

St. Teresa mistaken death
St. Teresa returned home in a severe coma. She was asleep for 4 days. Plans for the burial of Teresa took place as thought she would never wake or was already dead. Teresa suddenly wakes and in much pain, despite all this pain she was paralyzed. Yet still she returned to the convent for 3 more years. -

Losing family
In 1543 Teresa's father passed away. Teresa's siblings one by one migrated to America leaving her alone in Spain. -

The sorely wounded Christ vision
After a tough period of time where Teresa had some spiritual difficulties. Teresa said “I wished to live”, she wrote, “but I saw clearly that I was not living, but rather wrestling with the shadow of death; there was no one to give me life, and I was not able to take it". During the Lenten season, Teresa had a vision of the suffering christ. This instantly repaired her faith and removed any doubt -

Teresa recives the grace of the spiritual piercing of the heart. Also during this period, Teresa begins to write the story of her life. She named the book 'Life'.

From 1562-1566 the consitution of St. Joseph of Avila convent is written and the books The way of perfection' and the book 'Meditation on the song of songs' is also written -

The first step to the reformation
The first step to the reformation: Teresa writes a letter asking permission to found the St.Joseph convent in Avila. Pope Pius IV grants permission to let the convent go ahead. -

Another convent is founded
After receiving permission numerous times, founds another convent in Medina del Campo Spain. -

The reformation continues with even more convents
Teresa founded many more convents in this period, These included:
-convent in Malagon (April)
-onvent in Valladolid (August 15)
- Reformed monastery for friars in Duruelo is founded

Denounced to the inquisition
Teresa was denounced to the Inquisition by a woman that was expelled from a convent in Seville. -

Severe illness
Teresa falls to a severe illness influenza. This sickness was so severe it almost took her life -

The final chapter
After many years of frail and bad health, St. Teresa of Avila died in the arms of Blessed Anne of Saint Bartholomew of natural causes. -
The canonization
After 40 years since the death of St. Teresa, she was finally canonized by Gregory XV. -
The doctor of the church
On september 27th 1970, St. Teresa of avila was named the doctor of the church. St. Teresa is the patron saint of: Headache sufferers, Spanish Catholic Writers, and ill paitents/pain sufferers
