The French and Indian War, which happened in the colonies, was the beginning of hostile acts between the colonies and Great Britain. England and France had a conflict in America, which ended up in a war. (1754-1763) -

Proclaimation of 1763
The proclamation closed off the frontier to colonial expansion. The King presented the proclamation as a measure to calm the Indians, who felt that the colonists would drive them out from their lands. -
The Sugar Act
The Act set a tax on sugar and molasses imported into the colonies which impacted the manufacture of rum in New England. -
The Stamp Act
A tax put on every sheet of paper for the colonists to pay. Documents must contain a revenue stamp to be legal. This affected many things, including wills, marriage licenses, and even newspapers. -
The Quartering Act
British troops were allowed to stay in a colonist's house with the cost of nothing, and the provider has to house them and feed them with their own expenses. -
The Declaratory Act
An act for the securing the ownership of the King in America upon the parliament of Great Britain. The king declared this act to make sure the people living in the colonies knew that the King was their ruler. -
The Townshend Act
Taxes on glass, paint, oil, lead, paper, and tea were applied from the King in order to pay up for the damage done during the war before, and the King set taxes up on these goods during the Townshend Act in order to get money. -
The Tea Act
The East India Company was the olny source of tea for the colonists, but with the taxes on tea, the people did not want to buy the tea, leading into the Boston Tea Party. -
The Boston Tea Party
The unhappy colonists destroyed an entire shipment of tea sent by the East India Company. They were unhappy because of the tax on the tea being imported. So they boarded the ships and threw the chests of tea into Boston Harbor, ruining the tea. -
The Intolerable Acts
After the Boston Tea party, the King got mad and ordered "punishments" which included the colsing of the Boston Harbor, the British officials had advantages in court, and included the quartering of soldiers. The british officials were also granted the Writs of Assisstance, which allowed them to search exporting ships at any time. -
Declaration of Independence
The Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation, the United States of America, and no longer part of the British Empire.
